How to Install a 12V Control Box
How to Install a 12V Control Box
An incredible 12v system for the back of your 4WD or caravan! It can be used ‘plug and play’ by connecting straight to a battery or customize it however you want. The box comes 90% pre-wired with switches, quick-connect fittings, cig sockets and a voltmeter. It can easily be wired to accept a DC/DC 12v Battery Charger/Isolator and has an ultra-high quality aluminium casing with bolt-on lid and cable access points with grommets.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
STEP 1

Mount the control box by determining where you would like to place the box, allowing enough room for cables or wiring. Open the Control Box with a 3mm allen-key and double check wiring and terminal studs are secure.

STEP 2

Measure & mark the bolt pattern and drill pilot holes. Then, open the hole up with a larger drill bit that matches the bolts you have bought (in our video, we have drilled 10mm holes to match M10 bolts we are using). Make sure to clean up any aluminium swarf from inside the box.

STEP 3

Lift the 12V Control Box into the desired position and mark out the bolt pattern. If mounting inside a canopy, use a piece of cardboard for a template and transfer that bolt pattern inside. Drill the holes into the canopy or headboard using the same steps as number 2 – starting with a small diameter pilot hole and finishing with a larger drill-bit, making sure to clean any mess.

STEP 4

Move the control box into position and slot the bolts and washers into place. Then add washers and nylon locking nuts to the other side and tighten.

STEP 5

If mounting to a headboard, loosely secure the lid onto the control box and install this into the canopy. Skip this step if already installed into canopy.

STEP 6

Now, to install the wiring. Run a heavy duty positive and negative cable from the battery. In this video we have used 6 gauge cable but make sure to check the manual for the gauge you need. Make sure you have a 40AMP fuse or circuit breaker on the positive cable close to the battery. For safety, leave the fuse out of circuit breaker disconnected until you are finished wiring so the control box is not live whilst you’re working.

STEP 7

Put a small cut in the grommet you’re using and feed the wires through.

STEP 8

Connect the positive cable to the binding post with the existing positive cable and earth the negative cable to the black post. Make sure you tighten these up.

STEP 9

Lastly, tidy up any wiring with cable ties. Connect the circuit breaker or add the fuse to your fuse holder and all outlets should be live & ready to go!
