This means that a Kings upright 12v fridge is energy efficient, draws low power, and is reliable, powerful, and perfect for exploring or living off grid. Simply plug your Kings upright fridge into a suitable power source such as a 12v auxiliary battery, and you’re set! With extra thick insulation and a beefy rubber door seal, a Kings upright fridge is capable of efficiently and quietly producing chilled fridge temperatures of 0°C to 10°C, and (depending on the model chosen) this will automatically adjust the freezer temperature in the range of -5°C to -15°C.
Can a 12v upright fridge be used in a car?
Not all upright fridge models are the same! Unlike a household fridge Kings has specifically designed the 12v upright fridge freezer range for permanent installation in a car, 4WD, caravan, campervan, trailer, and just about any vehicle you can think of with 12v or 24v output.
Connecting it up is super simple thanks to the pre-wired heavy duty Quick Connect plug, it’s Anderson compatible and means that you can plug the upright fridge straight into a Kings battery box or 12v control box.
The included mounting kit makes permanent vehicle installation into any setup incredibly easy. What is the storage capacity of a typical 12v upright fridge?
A 12V upright fridge is designed to be permanently installed into a car and the beauty of that is the fact that they typically have a smaller footprint than typical portable camping fridges. This is great because it makes smart use of vertical storage because all the space above a typical portable camping style fridge would otherwise be wasted. Plus it leaves plenty of space behind the fridge for things like your 12 volt set up or a storage box. The Kings 12v upright fridge freezer range consists of three models, available in 60L upright fridge, 85L upright fridge/freezer, and 110L upright fridge/freezer capacity. Are there any specific power requirements for a 12v upright fridge?
A Kings upright fridge freezer is 12v or 24v DC only. There is an Anderson style power connector at the rear of the fridge to make connection easy. This heavy-duty connector is designed for long term and high-power applications.
The preferred method to power up your 12v upright fridge is to install 12v auxiliary battery and battery isolator system. This allows you to use a deep cycle battery which is designed to handle being continuously discharged and recharged unlike your average cranking battery. Your average 100Ah deep cycle battery should be able to power your modern day fridges for around two days without recharging, but this depends on the size of your upright fridge, the temperature and how often you open and close the fridge door. With an auxiliary battery, you’ll still be able to start your 4WD if the auxiliary battery is run flat.
How energy-efficient is a 12v upright fridge compared to other types of fridges?
A Kings upright fridge is designed to operate on low power, and the power consumption will vary depending on a number of factors which affect all portable stayzcool and portable escape fridge makes and models. Factors such as the internal set temperature, the ambient temperature inside your car or caravan, and how many items have been loaded into the fridge or freezer will impact the energy efficiency. The hotter it is outside or the more items stored inside the harder the compressor needs to work to keep the inside cold. In general, a Kings upright 12v fridge will average about 2 amps per hour with the upright car fridge set at 3°C in a 32°C ambient temperature.
